Kosrae — The Sleeping Lady Off-Grid Escape
- Kosrae
- 5D/4N
- Via Guam
On request — tailored to you
Kosrae is the island the others whisper about: volcanic, wet, and so green it almost glows, with a reef that rings the entire coast. Only a handful of visitors find their way here each year, which is exactly the point. This is a sample journey to show what an off-grid escape here can look like — slow mornings on the water, one legendary hike, and a welcome that feels like family. Every trip is built to order around your dates.
A sample itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival. Land on the short runway beside the mangroves and transfer to a rainforest-edge lodge on the lagoon. Sunset from the deck; dinner is whatever the fishermen brought in.
Day 2 — The Sleeping Lady. The signature day: a guided hike up the mountain whose silhouette gives the island its nickname, through cloud forest and past waterfalls to the island’s rooftop. Descend to a riverside swim and a well-earned feast of fish cooked in leaves.
Day 3 — Lagoon & mangroves. A morning kayak through the mangrove channels, then snorkel the barrier reef that rings the island. Afternoon free for hammocks and the village’s famous hospitality.
Day 4 — The ruins of Lelu. Wander the basalt ruins of an ancient island city with a local historian, then a final swim at the island’s quietest beach.
Day 5 — Departure. Breakfast at leisure, then the short transfer to the airport.

Good to know
- Kosrae observes the Sabbath wholeheartedly: Sunday is a day of church, family, and rest across the island. If your trip includes a Sunday, we plan it as your quiet day — a book, a beach, a hammock. Most guests end up calling it the best day of the trip.
- The Sleeping Lady hike takes a full day and needs decent fitness; a gentler valley walk can be swapped in on request.
- Kosrae is green because it rains — pack a light rain jacket in every month of the year.
- Currency is the US dollar; the lodge is cash-friendly, and the internet is honest about being slow.
- Flights from Guam run on the island-hopper’s twice-weekly rhythm — dates are built around the flight schedule.
