The service
The national ships — M/V Micronesian Navigator and M/V Caroline Voyager — are the FSM government’s passenger and cargo vessels. They are the only scheduled sea service between the four states, carrying passengers, household goods, produce, and building materials between Pohnpei, Chuuk, Kosrae, and Yap, with calls to outer islands along the way.
How it works
- Sailings are irregular — each state typically sees one visit per quarter, announced by the Marine Division and the state governments
- Bookings are made by phone or at the port offices; there is no online booking
- Fares are set on board or through the shipping agents and are not published in advance
- Freight travels alongside passengers — cargo is loaded at the dock and collected at the destination
Practical notes
- The ships are the affordable, roomy alternative to flying — but plan for delays and weather
- Contact the Marine Division for the next sailing dates on your route
- Private charter vessels are available for urgent or specialized voyages
