The U.S dollar is the official currency used in Kosrae and throughout Micronesia.
Kosrae’s economy still greatly depends on the cash economy of the United States. As part of the FSM the state receives US funding through the Compact Agreement which is set to run until the year 2001.
Kosraean is the local language, most people also speak English.
Pohnpei is perched atop the equator in the west-central Pacific Ocean. Its exact location is 6 degrees 54′ N Latitude and 158 degrees 14′ E Longitude.
Pohnpei is one of the four states that comprises the Federated States of Micronesia, or FSM. Made up of more than two dozen outer islands and atolls, the state’s largest island, Pohnpei, is the largest in the FSM and accounts for almost half of its total land area.
According to the latest census, Pohnpei has a population of 34,486, 2,091 of which are living in the outer islands.

Climate Temperatures in Yap are moderate and fairly constant. Average temperature during the spring and summer months are 82 Fahrenheit Celsius, and 80 Fahrenheit Celsius during the fall and winter. Relative humidity ranges from 65 to 100 percent, with an annual average of 83 percent.
The State’s Capital and commercial center is located here. Most of the outer islands, stretching nearly 600 miles east of Yap Island, are coral atolls and are sparsely populated by people who are different from the Yapese in culture and language.
