Woman found guilty of assaulting 3 men

AFTER a two-day bench trial, Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo found Shu Jie Tian, 58, guilty of three counts of assault and battery and three counts of disturbing the peace.

The defendant, who assaulted three men over a video recording, was sentenced to 90 days imprisonment, but all suspended if she successfully completes her supervised probation.

An accountant and a cook, she was placed on supervised probation for three years. She was also ordered to pay a total fine of $4,500 — $1,000 for each assault and battery charge, and $500 for each disturbing the peace charge, as well $100 in court costs and a $120 probation fee. In addition, she will write a letter of apology to the three victims.

Shu Jie Tian was represented by attorney Stephen J. Nutting while Assistant Attorneys General Frances T. Demapan and Jonathan Wilberscheid were the prosecutors.

Demapan said the victims were trying to collect their unpaid wages and took a video using a cell phone of a structure that they helped build in Papago.

The defendant was staying at the structure at the time and she punched or slapped the three because she was in the video.
