GOVERNOR Ralph Torres welcomes members of the U.S. congressional delegation headed by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who are arriving today.
The congressional delegation will arrive at 9 a.m. today at the Tinian airport after coming from Guam. The visiting members are Murkowski, her husband Verne Martell, RDML Shoshana Chatfield of Joint Region Marianas, Congressman Gregorio Sablan, Congresswoman Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen of American Samoa, Isaac Edwards, senior Republican counsel, Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Emy Lesofski, Senate Committee on Energy and Natural resources, and Commander Jeremy Lyon of the Department of Defense. They head straight to Tinian from Guam and once on Tinian, will pay a courtesy visit with the Mayor of Tinian Joey Patrick San Nicolas and will conduct a windshield tour of the island. The group is expected to arrive on Saipan between 11 a.m. and noon. Press Secretary Kevin Bautista said there will be no press conference or interview with the media during their arrival. He said upon arrival, the delegation will travel to a closed lunch meeting hosted by the Governor and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce with the CNMI leadership and members of the business community. Bautista added that after the meeting, the group will have a closed windshield tour of the island. At 5:30 p.m. the delegation will hold a traditional wreath laying ceremony at the American Memorial Park Court of Honor in Garapan. The event is open and will give the media some opportunity to ask questions during the ceremony. After the wreath laying, the group will then proceed to a closed dinner reception. Bautista said due to the strict schedule and short time frame, the media will only have the opportunity to take photos during the arrival and the wreath laying ceremony. Bautista added that only approved and authorized media representatives are allowed to be at the airport.
