Saipan delegation shelves rezoning measure

THE Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation has shelved a measure that would have rezoned a lot in San Vicente from village residential to rural.

House Local Bill 20-58, which proposes to amend the Saipan Zoning Law of 2013, by amending the Saipan Official Zoning Map Sheet 19 of 29, was introduced by Rep. John Paul Sablan.

During a session on Friday, delegates were informed that there was no need to amend the law. According to the Zoning Administrator Therese Ogumoro, the lot is already designated as rural zone.

Delegation Floor Leader Joseph Deleon Guerrero then made a motion to file the local bill.

In an interview, Sablan said there was a miscommunication between the delegation and the zoning administrator.

He said he drafted the bill based on the land owner’s request because there was potential investment in the area. Sablan said a letter from the administrator indicated that the area was village residential.

Ogumoro on Friday apologized to the delegation members and corrected the information provided by her office regarding the San Vicente lot.
