THE Saipan mayor’s office is asking visitors and community members to be careful while at Sugar King Park which is undergoing renovation.
“We ask that the public stay away from the project area,” special assistant to the mayor Henry Hofschneider said.
Since last week, a contractor has been repairing various sections of the park’s chain-link fence, he added.
The restoration work at the park, which was damaged by Tyhoon Soudelor in Aug. 2015, will probably he completed by September.
Hofschneider said the mayor’s office has completed the repair of the concrete benches, tables and trash receptacles.
He said after the Federal Emergency Management Agency provided $63,000 for the repair of the fence, the mayor’s office asked the Department of Public Works to help prepare the engineering and architectural design of the project.
The mayor’s office will provide 10 percent of the total project cost as matching funds for the FEMA assistance, he added.
The matching funds, he said, are included in their fiscal year 2018 budget request.
