THE Northern Marianas Trades Institute aims to raise $32,000 at its third annual gala to be held at Fiesta Resort on June 22.
Ross Manglona, director of the NMTI continuing education and workforce development, told the board that the first gala raised $16,000 and last year, they raised $24,000.
“We are hoping that we will have a net of $32,000 this year,” he said, adding that they are once again relying on corporate sponsors.
This year’s gala will include a silent auction.
NMTI Chief Executive Officer Agnes McPhetres said she has asked a family, which has a collection of paintings, to donate them for the silent auction.
Based on their initial conversation, McPhetres said if the family agrees to auction the paintings, 50 percent of the proceeds will go to NMTI.
Manglona said they decided to again hold the gala at Fiesta Resort “because they are the most responsive among the hotels here.”
He added that the hotel even cut the price this year. “We will set up a place outside for roasting a pig. We also have a band. It is our third gala and we are trying to get better at it.”
In addition, there will be new awards to be given to NMTI staff and students this year, he said.
