New street lights for As Mahetok

(Press Release) — For a long time, the residents of As Mahetok, in Precinct IV, have been complaining about the lack of street lights in their area.

In August 2017, their concern was brought to the attention of Rep. Alice Igitol. The request to have street lights was accomplished through Igitol’s appropriation measure, H.L.B. 20-43, that was signed into law by Gov. Ralph Torres on Dec. 20, 2017. The bill appropriated $18,000 to have six power poles and street lights in the area.

On Feb. 23, 2018, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. started the project in Precinct IV, As Mahetok. The power poles are being erected for the placement of street lights. The residents’ safety has been addressed and they can now feel content at night, Rep. Alice Igitol said.

“I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Department of Public Works Technical Director Anthony Camacho,   CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho and his line crew, to the colleagues who supported my bill and most especially to Gov. Ralph Torres for his immediate action in signing H.L.B. 20-43 which became Saipan Local Law 20-17.”
