Near drowning at Managaha

(Department of Public Safety) — On Jan. 13, 2018 at 11:21 a.m., DPS Central received a call reporting a near drowning incident at Managaha.

A 26-year-old Chinese female was transported to the Smiling Cove Marina by the Tasi Tour boat. The victim was conscious upon arrival and transported to the Commonwealth Health Center by medics.

She had arrived on Managaha with a friend around 9:30 a.m. and went to the northwestern side of the island to swim. The victim, who does not know how to swim, was not wearing a life jacket. After following her friend into the water, she panicked when her feet could not reach the bottom and she took in water. The friend pulled her to shore and called the lifeguard for help.

She was treated and released from CHC.
