IN the coming months, Paseo de Marianas will undergo a makeover to align itself with the Marianas Visitors Authority’s flower-island project, MVA Managing Director Chris Concepcion said.
The makeover will cost $1.4 million which MVA has already allotted, he added.
At a recent meeting, the MVA board headed by Gloria Cavanagh approved management’s request to announce a request for proposals for the Paseo de Marianas project.
“The plan’s really nice,” Concepcion said, adding that MVA product-development manager Tatiana Babauta has been working closely with their in-house contractor in connection with the project’s architectural design.
The improvements will include a permanent stage for performances and various events, new walkways and more lights, he said.
Babauta told the MVA board that the design includes more plum trees and plumeria plants as well as flower arrangements.
“Basically we are removing everything that’s in the middle of the Paseo,” she said, adding that they will also install more benches in the area.
MVA board member Jerry Tan suggested the inclusion of a sound system for island music that will be played every day and especially during special celebrations at the Paseo.
Cavanagh, however, expressed concern about the project’s construction timeline because of the current shortage of construction workers.
She also urged MVA management to inform tenants in the area about the improvement project which Babauta said will be completed in eight months.
She said the construction will be done in phases to minimize the impact on business operations in the area.
Before construction starts, Babauta said they will meet with all the businesses in the area to inform them about the schedule of construction activities.
