Most SHEFA recipients want to study at NMC

THE Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program has received 1,093 valid scholarship applications for the spring semester, SHEFA Administrator Merissa Rasa reported to the board.

She said they have 241 new, 744 on-going and 108 returning applicants.

Of the total valid applicants, 766 want to study on Saipan while 327 prefer to get their college education abroad, she added.

“We always have high percentage of students who want to study at NMC,” Rasa said.

There are 560 freshmen, 72 sophomores, 152 juniors and 233 seniors. Twenty-one are trying to obtain a doctorate; 55, master’s degree; 76, certificate degree; 492, associate degree; and 447, bachelor’s degree.

Rasa said those who are pursuing advance degrees are mostly enrolled in law and education courses.

So far, she said they have denied six applications and approved 61. The rest are still pending, she added.

Recipients must submit the required documents on Feb. 20.
