Man faces charge of assault with a dangerous weapon

A 32 year-old man was arrested for slapping and swinging a machete at another man last Saturday at Koblerville.

Shadel Daniel appeared for a bail hearing in the courtroom of Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo on Monday.

Since Daniel was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace, Govendo imposed a $10,000 cash bail on the defendant.

Assistant attorney general Robby Glass Jr. appeared for the government, while assistant public defender Nancy Dominski was appointed as the defendant’s defense counsel.

According to the police on Saturday at around 4 am in the morning, Daniel slapped the victim while he was at a residence in Koblerville with some friends.

It is not clear why Daniel slapped the victim.

After slapping the victim, police said, Daniel got a machete from the trunk of his vehicle.

He then allegedly approached the victim again and pulled the machete out of its casing, held up his arm and prepared to swing at the victim with the machete.

The victim told police that a female friend stood between Daniel and the victim waving her arms to stop Daniel from swinging the machete.

The victim said Daniel then put the machete back in its casing and returned it to the trunk.

Daniel, according to the victim, went back to where the male victim was standing and slapped him again. He then threatened to hit the victim with a plastic chair but the same female friend told him to stop.

Daniel left the area when he learned that the homeowner had called the police.

Govendo remanded the defendant to the Department of Corrections and ordered him to return on March 12, 2018 at 1:30 pm for a preliminary hearing, and arraignment on March 19 at 9am.
