Man arrested for punching 9-year-old son

A 34-year-old man punched his 9-year-old son over an electric fan, the child’s mother said.

Jerome Ngirakemerang Tudela was arrested by police after the boy’s mother reported what he did to their son on April 11, 2018.

The victim told police that prior to the incident, his father woke him up and told him move the fan away. The boy said he moved the fan and  went back to sleep.

But he said Tudela punched him twice on the back of his head and told the boy to get off the bed and sleep on the floor.

The mother told police that she  witnessed the incident. She said Tudela “was complaining about his nose hurting” because of the wind from the fan.

She said it was not the first time that Tudela hit the boy and that she was tired of seeing him abuse their son.

Tudela was charged with child abuse or neglect, and disturbing the peace.

On Friday, Superior Court Judge Wesley Bogdan imposed a $15,000 cash bail on Tudela who was represented by Assistant Public Defender Nancy Dominski while Assistant Attorney General Frances Demapan appeared for the government.

Tudela was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.

His next court appearance was set for April 19 at 1:30 p.m. while his arraignment will be held on April 23 at 9 a.m.
