(BECQ) — The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality Cleanup Brigade will be at it again, picking up trash at Laulau Beach on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 at 8 a.m.
If you would like to volunteer your time to clean and beautify our island, please meet the BECQ representatives on Saturday at the Laulau Beach entrance at 8 a.m. Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10 a.m. and break for drinks and then continue, if needed.
This month, outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three cleanups will receive a brigade t-shirt.
The islandwide cleanup was very successful! Rota has reported a total of over 460 pounds of trash and 115 volunteers and Tinian has reported an estimated total of about 320 pounds of trash and over 50 volunteers. Now Saipan being the largest with a total of about 450 volunteers and a total of 4,560 pounds of trash collected. Thanks to all our wonderful participants this year, about 5,340 pounds of trash were removed and properly disposed.
BECQ is looking forward to a repeat success on Saturday, so join BECQ’s monthly cleanup brigade and “Pick It Up!” Let us work together for the health of our coral reefs and cleanliness of our beaches for everyone to enjoy.
For more information about volunteering, please contact the BECQ office at 664-8500/1.
