Judge modifies bail imposed on police cadet

SUPERIOR Court Judge Joseph Camacho on Tuesday granted a defense motion for bail modification and approved as third-party custodian the father-in-law of a police cadet charged with assault, theft, theft of service, and disturbing the peace.

During the hearing, the father-in-law of defendant Aghilimal Jesus Rabauliman Faisao was called to the stand and told the court he will call the police if his son-in-law violates the conditions of his release.

Faisao, 20, was ordered to surrender his passport. Upon posting $500 of the $5,000 cash bail imposed on him, he will be set free.

Faisao was ordered not to consume alcohol and stay away from the Mobil gas station in Chalan Kiya and its employees. The gas station is just across from his father-in-law’s residence

Faisao was represented by Assistant Public Defender Shoshanah Epstein while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.

Faisao’s defense counsel waived the preliminary hearing set for Aug. 1. The defendant’s next appearance was set for Aug. 7, 2017 at 9 a.m.

It is not clear whether the charges against Faisao will prevent him from graduating from the 22nd Cycle Police Academy this Friday.

According to police, Faisao, who appeared to be drunk at the time, harassed a gas station cashier and challenged a gas attendant to fight when he was asked to pay for items he took from the store early Sunday morning.
