Judge acquits ex-Labor chief in traffic case

SUPERIOR Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Friday granted the defense motion for acquital, saying the goverment failed to prove that  the car rented by former Labor Secretary Edith Deleon Guerrero was a goverment vehicle.

Citing insufficient evidence, her counsel, Assistant Public Defender Heather Zona, made an oral motion for acquital after the prosecution rested its case. Deleon Guerrero was accused of misuse of government vehicle, but she said the vehicle in question was a car rental.

In an interview on Friday, Deleon Guerrero  said the traffic case against her was politically motivated. She said she is seriously thinking of running for the Senate or a House seat in Precinct 1 as an independent candidate. More details to follow.
