Jason Tarkong is new judiciary chief marshal

FORMER Police Lt. Jason Tarkong was sworn in Monday as the new CNMI judiciary chief marshal by local Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexandro Castro.

Tarkong, who served as the Department of Public Safety’s public information officer for many years, said he intends to implement new standard operating procedures for the judiciary marshals.

A graduate of the 13th Cycle Police Academy, Tarkong joined the police force in 1995 after a two-year stint with the fire division.

As the chief marshal, he is responsible for the judiciary’s security, field operations, bench arrests, summons, and other court duties.

He said DPS remains “family — there never was a dull moment.”

As a 50-year-old grandfather, Tarkong said he is now looking forward to a five-day workweek with weekends off and “decent pay,” he added in jest.

Also on Monday, Sonya Camacho was sworn in as director of courts.
