Japan travel group leads pre-Tourism Month cleanup

(MVA) — The Japan Saipan Travel Association conducted its semi-annual cleanup of Garapan on April 21, 2018, drawing 45 participants from 17 companies and collecting approximately 200 lbs. of trash.

JSTA was joined by the Marianas Visitors Authority, a number of tourism industry companies, and community members in picking up trash from American Memorial Park to the Carolinian Affairs Office along roadways and the beach in anticipation of more tourist arrivals during Japan’s Golden Week holiday and May Tourism Month.

“Year after year, JSTA and many other business and organizations conduct this annual cleanup early on a Saturday morning before Golden Week,” said MVA marketing manager Broc Calvo.  “MVA is very grateful to JSTA and our other community partners for their consistent care over the years in helping to make the Marianas a beautiful place to live, do business, and visit.”

Other participating companies and organizations were: Japan Consular Office, Northern Marianas Dive Operators Association Pacific Development Inc., Pacific Micronesia Tours, Tasi Tours & Transportation, H.I.S. Saipan, Himawari Kenbukan, Good Care, Aqua Connections, Islanders Net Inc., Saipan Sea Ventures, KCA Corp., and Tan Holdings Corp.

The Golden Week is a collection of four national holidays within seven days and is one of Japan’s busiest holiday seasons.
