DFEMS responds to Talafofo grass fire

DEPARTMENT of Fire and Emergency Medical Services strike teams responded to a grass fire in Talafofo on Friday.

Derek Gersonde DFEMS public information officer, said at 10:58 a.m. on March 30, 2018, grass fire was reported in the area.

“We have strike teams east of Miller’s Estate and in Talafofo monitoring the movement of the fire,” he said, adding that there were  no immediate threats to homes or farms.

By 5:30 p.m., the grass fire had died out, Gersonde said. “All the strike teams have been taken of the line. But the regular duty team will continue to spot check the area for any flare ups.”

DFEMS strike teams had responded to eight brush/grass fires on Saipan in March due to the dry season.

These areas included San Roque, Tanapag, Wireless Ridge, Papago, Chinatown. Mt. Tapochao and Kanat Tabla.
