DANIEL Kirby Kaipat is the 8th Cycle Corrections Academy valedictorian.
Kaipat, 24, was born and raised on Saipan and is a graduate of Kagman High School. His grandparents, Florence and Jim Kirby, raised him.
Kaipat said getting the top award involved a lot of hard work and commitment.
He said the academy instilled discipline among its cadets and taught them how to work well with others.
Kaipat said the drill instructors were like their second parents. “They showed us the right way and the right path when working in law enforcement.”
Larry Jay D. Sebaklim was the 8th Cycle’s salutatorian, Dreana T. Rabauliman received the Governor’s Leadership Award while Ryned E. Marcil was the Unsung Hero awardee.
The Most Physically Fit Award went to Alfonso L. Taitano, the Most Physically Improved awardee was Kristy P. Deleon Guerrero and Top Gun was Derick Chen.
The 8th Cycle Corrections Academy graduation ceremony was held at the Fiesta Resort on Wednesday.
Twenty-five cadets completed the 5-and-a-half-month training, Department of Corrections Commissioner Vincent Attao said.
“Today is your day,” Attao told the new Correction officers. “You have completed what is required of you all. Tomorrow is a different day. This is when you apply what you have learned over the last five and a half months, but please note that we are all going to be here for you to continue that guidance so that we can provide the necessary supervision, and care of the inmates in our facility.”
Gov. Ralph Torres, in his remarks, praised the marching entrance of the cadets. “Man, I hope they don’t hold this against me, but I’ve been to several academy graduations and honestly I think that’s the best entrance I’ve seen,” he said as he congratulated and thanked the new Corrections graduates.
“You chose a very hard department to work for. You will be in a confined area, and the people that you will deal with may be very difficult, so thank you for choosing Corrections.”
The other new Corrections officers are Ludale Atinisom Camacho, Ryned Ederkeroi Odoshi, Mark John Cruzat, Brendon A. Manglona, Pius R. Yaroitemal Jr., Alfonso L. Taitano, Patrick I.
