DEPARTMENT of Corrections Commissioner Vincent S. Attao said an expanded curriculum and training program were implemented during the recently concluded Corrections Academy, 8th Cycle.
Corrections officers were taught, among other things, how to communicate with inmates in a more effective way, he added.
He expects the new Corrections officers to help the department “overcome certain situations that we faced in the past.”
The recent academy, he added, “provided us with more manpower, and will ease the workload of our existing officers and give them more time to spend with their families. Obviously, we want all our Corrections officers to be in the right physical and mental condition so we don’t want to see them overworked.”
Attao declined to comment on the complaints filed by some inmates over prison conditions. “A proper response from the department will be provided soon,” he added.
Wednesday’s news story on the 8th Corrections Academy graduation ceremony failed to mention that the Vicente T. Seman Award went to Frankie A. Ramangmou Jr.
