THE Community Guidance Center, which is under the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., is observing National Prevention Week from May 14 to 19.
Joe Ada, CGC prevention-services unit social-marketing officer, said the week-long event aims to involve the community in raising awareness about substance abuse and mental-health issues while promoting quality behavioral-health resources.
Ada said they also aim to strengthen their partnership with other government agencies and community organizations dedicated to behavioral and public health.
He said the event is held annually during the third week of May. “It is an important time for everyone to re-focus on prevention. National Prevention Week provides an opportunity for schools and organizations to host prevention-themed events before the school year ends, raising awareness about substance abuse and mental-health issues among students and their families.”
Ada said the program is sponsored by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration.
