Clothing store accused of parking discrimination

A PERSON who uses a wheelchair for mobility has sued a clothing store in Chalan Piao for parking accommodation discrimination.

Thomas K. Aldan filed the complaint in Superior Court against 3H Corp., doing business as Tapo Shopping, for discrimination on the basis of his disability. He said the company is denying him full and equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the goods, services, facilities and accommodations of the clothing store.

Aldan, through attorney Shelli L. Neal of the Northern Marianas Protection & Advocacy Systems Inc., asked the court to declare Tapo Shopping in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Neal also asked for an order instructing Tapo Shopping to make its facilities readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities as required by ADA.

She said the court should order Tapo Shopping to install a stable, firm and slip-resistant accessible parking lot with clearly marked accessible parking spaces as well as clearly marked accessible routes to the entrance and accessible ramps.

Neal also asked for reasonable attorney’s fee, cost of the lawsuit and other relief the court may deem proper.

Variety was unable to get a comment from Tapo Shopping.
