Charges against Miguel Arrozal dropped, again

THE Attorney General’s Office again dropped the charges against a former boxer accused of sexually abusing a minor.

Miguel Cecilio “Manila Mauler” Arrozal, who has been in jail for over eight months, subsequently dodged the jury trial scheduled for April 23, 2018 at 9 a.m.

The trial was vacated and the judge ordered Arrozal’s release from the custody of the Department of Corrections.

In July 2017, Assistant AG Teri Tenorio failed to identify the defendant in the preliminary hearing, prompting the judge to dismiss the charges against Arrozal, 49.

However, the next day, a new warrant was issued against the defendant.

In his recent order, Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho again dismissed without prejudice the charges against Arrozal following a stipulation signed by Assistant Public Defender Nancy Dominski and Assistant AG Teri Tenorio.

Arrozal was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, and 2 counts of disturbing the peace, and assault and battery.

In last year’s preliminary hearing, Arrozal was represented by Assistant Public Defender Jamal Saleh who told the court that the allegations against his client lacked reliability and were “triggered by the vague allegations of a 13-year-old witness.”
