Business group to meet with lawmakers

THE Northern Marianas Business Alliance Corporation, a group of business officials seeking U.S. congressional assistance with respect to the CNMI’s workforce crisis, will update local lawmakers on Thursday morning about the results of NMBAC’s efforts so far.

The CNMI House of Representatives and Senate earlier adopted House Joint Resolution 20-7, introduced by Rep. Angel Demapan to express support for NMBAC.

The business group, in collaboration with the CNMI government, is lobbying for an extension of the federal CW-1 program beyond Dec. 2019 and an increase of the CW cap from 9,998 to 18,000.

Members of the group said they will continue to have a dialogue with federal officials until the CNMI’s concerns are properly addressed.
