$10K bail set on Olopai for assault

A Commonwealth Utilities Corporation’ Power Division staffer was arrested early Monday morning for punching his girlfriend in the face and rib cage.

Police responded to a domestic violence call from the victim at Dandan Baseball field on January 22, 2018 at 1:27 a.m. Police observed the victim’s swollen face and red, puffy eyes.

The victim told police that her boyfriend, Jose Olopai Rabauliman, 41, had been drinking with her father and brother at her birthday party.

She said that during the party, Rabauliman got into an argument with her father and brother.

Police stated that when the father and brother of the victim left their residence, Rabauliman, in their bedroom, accused her of always siding with her father.

The victim told police that Rabauliman punched her twice with a closed fist in the rib cage area and punched her in the head multiple times.

The victim left their residence, and called for police assistance. She told the police that she cared about her safety and that of her children.

Rabauliman was brought to the courtroom of associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho for a bail hearing on Monday afternoon. Camacho imposed a $10,000 cash bail on the defendant.

The government is charging Rabauliman with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

At the hearing, chief public defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as Rabauliman’s counsel.

Assistant Attorney General, Jonathan Wilberscheid appeared as the government prosecutor.

Camacho remanded Rabauliman back to the Department of Corrections.

Rabauliman was ordered to return to court on Jan. 29 at 1:30 pm, and arraignment will take place on Feb.5 at 9 a.m.
