Sen. Igisomar named acting Saipan mayor

SAIPAN Mayor David M. Apatang appointed Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar as acting mayor starting Monday, special assistant to the mayor Henry Hofschneider said.

“Please extend your cooperation and understanding to Mr. Igisomar as he assumes this temporary appointment,� the mayor said in his memorandum dated Jan. 4.

Hofschneider said the mayor will be on Guam on official government business from Jan. 7 to 10.

The mayor will attend the inauguration of Guam Gov.-elect Lourdes “Lou� A. Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov.-elect Joshua Tenorio; and the annual meeting of the Association of Mariana Islands Mayors, Vice Mayors, and Elected Municipal Council Members or AMIM.

Based on Saipan Local Law 17-8, the mayor will appoint the chairman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council as acting mayor whenever the mayor is off island.

If the municipal council chairman is not available, the mayor will appoint the chairman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation as acting mayor.

Hofschneider said Rep.-elect Luis John Castro, the municipal council chairman, is off-island to attend the AMIM meeting on Guam.

Igisomar is the acting legislative delegation chairman so he was appointed acting mayor, Hofschneider added.
