SAIPAN Mayor David M. Apatang said typhoon debris in the villages must be completely cleared by Jan. 15, the deadline set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency which is funding the operation.
“So we need the cooperation of the community members to please segregate their waste,” he added.
Apatang said his office will soon issue a schedule for picking up typhoon debris in the villages.
Although they have already conducted a second operation in some villages, there’s still more trash left, he added.
He reiterated that they will not pick up household and commercial trash mixed with typhoon debris.
In the meantime, “our field personnel will continue working very hard,” he said, adding that they will still report for work on Dec. 24, take a break on Christmas, and then return to the villages on the 26th.
Apatang said his office is also providing other community services such as road repair and maintenance as well as stray-dog control.
