Saipan mayor’s office hosts Thanksgiving lunch for soldiers, staff

THE Saipan mayor’s office hosted lunch on Wednesday for members of the U.S. Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve who are working with the mayor’s office field personnel and other agencies in the ongoing typhoon recovery program.

Mayor David M. Apatang told Variety that his office wanted to show appreciation to all those helping the island recover from Typhoon Yutu.

The mayor said he is also grateful to his personnel for their hard work throughout the years. They spend most of their time away from home, he said, adding that their families have also made lots of sacrifices.

In his Thanksgiving message to the community, the mayor said: “From my employees who serve you day in and day out, and from me who is committed to making sure your concerns and needs are heard and taken care of, I and my employees take this moment to wish all families and friend in Saipan a Happy Thanksgiving Day.”

He said “despite the circumstance each of them find themselves in today, we must give thanks to our Lord for making this day and all days past and coming, always a special one.”

The mayor said each day is a challenge for each one of them, but with their pledge to support one another, they will make it through these trying times.

“To families and friends living afar, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and always remember Saipan in your heart,” the mayor said.

He also thanked the CNMI’s partners: the U.S. Army National Guard, the U.S. Army Reserve and federal agencies.

“Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. We are truly blessed for your presence here and for sacrificing precious time away from your family as you spend Thanksgiving here on Saipan,” the mayor said.
