ROTA Mayor Efraim Atalig said they will be sending relief goods to Saipan and Tinian as soon as air cargo service resumes operation.
“It is our turn! One people one Marianas, one love,” the mayor said.
When Rota was hit by Typhoon Mangkhut in September, the island received relief goods and other forms of assistance from Saipan and Tinian.
On Oct. 25, Super Typhoon Yutu devastated Saipan and Tinian.
This time, Atalig said they will initially send hundreds of bottled water to Saipan, for distribution to local residents, as well patients from Rota and Tinian patients.
The mayor thanked the Rota leadership for extending a helping hand to Rota’s medical referral patients on Saipan.
“We unite for our people in time of need,” Atalig said, as he echoed Gov. Ralph D.L.G. Torres’ statement that “this disaster is beyond politics.”
The mayor said he has also asked the Rota leadership to help secure room accommodations for the patients on Saipan.
On Saturday, the mayor said the cargo flight was already full, but they were able to get assistance from Okeanos Marianas to help transport some relief supplies to Saipan.
He said the Rota West Harbor was the staging hub for a Guam vessel that awaited the arrival of Okeanos Marianas.
Atalig thanked the Guam captain and crews who linked up with the crew of Okeanos Marianas.
