Rota mayor’s office: Workplace incident ‘resolved’

AN assault incident that happened on Dec. 12, 2018 at the Rota Women’s Affairs Office has already been “resolved,” according to Mayor Efraim Atalig’s public information officer, Ivan Mereb.

He said the mayor’s office could not disclose the names of the persons involved because of employee privacy issues.

“The Rota mayor’s office does not tolerate violence in the workplace and treat all matters pertaining to employee safety as a prime concern,” Mereb said, adding that such incidents are taken seriously and are followed by prompt action from authorities.

Mereb said although the issue has been resolved, the mayor still asked for an incident report.

In a letter to the editor published by Variety on Dec. 31, 2018, Lucy Hocog White said her mother was assaulted at her job site during office hours by a government official.

White said her mother works for the Women’s Affairs Office under the Rota mayor’s office.

She said “police officers who responded…did nothing to apprehend the perpetrator for assault and battery and use of a deadly weapon,” White added.

“I am appalled at the fact that no one has been held accountable for their actions in this case.”
