PSS thanks outgoing BOE member for his service and guidance – Marianas Variety

EDUCATION Commissioner Glenn Muna on Tuesday thanked Board of Education member Herman T. Guerrero for his 17 years of service.

“On behalf of the PSS management, we thank you — we are very grateful for your leadership and guidance through the years, Muna told Guerrero at the end of the BOE committee on fiscal, personnel and administration meeting chaired by the outgoing board member.

In response, Guerrero thanked PSS and management for the support. “We were always a team. I hope you will continue to support PSS.

He also commended the PSS staff members. “You are valuable members of the PSS family. Always fight for the kids.

He then reminded the other board members “not to interfere with how the commissioner runs [PSS].

“That’s critical because the commissioner is required to submit his annual goals and objectives. If board members start interfering, the commissioner cannot accomplish his goals and objectives. We need to give him that courtesy, knowing that he is capable of doing what he has to do with the help of the staff. I encouraged all of you to support the commissioner, Guerrero said.

He emphasized the need to respect and support the commissioner. “Whatever differences the board might have, members need to consult with him because is the one running the system. Stop interfering.

Guerrero believes that the CNMI has been successful as far as public education is concerned.

“Since I came on board [in Jan. 2002], I have seen improvements. We have substantially seen great improvements and progress within  PSS.â€

He recalled that a few years back, a federal official sought help from  PSS.

“He was disappointed with the lack of progress in terms of education in the other Micronesia islands so he asked PSS how it could help its Micronesian counterparts.
