Over 1K cast early votes

OVER 1,000 voters cast their ballots on Tuesday, the first day of the early-voting period on Saipan, Tinian and Rota, the Commonwealth Election Commission said on Wednesday.

Kayla Igitol, CEC administrative officer, said there were 908 early voters on Saipan; 30 on Tinian; and 114 on Rota.

The CEC said there were 18,975 registered voters as of Oct. 5, 2018.

On Wednesday, the second day for early voting, Igitol said it was a “little slow” on Saipan compared to the first day.

Maryann Arriola was the election observer for the Republican Party while former CEC chair Frances Sablan was the observer for the Independents/Democrats.

Arriola said the GOP candidates will vote on Election Day, Nov. 13.

Among those who cast their votes on Wednesday was Gus Kaipat, whose father Diego Kaipat is the Republican candidate for Northern Islands mayor.
