EDUCATION Commissioner Glenn Muna on Tuesday said no senior high school student has withdrawn from the Public School System.
In an interview, Muna said almost 900 seniors are expected to graduate this June.
Due to the severe damage sustained by Saipan and Tinian public schools after Typhoon Yutu hit both islands, PSS announced in November that it would “process students who wished to withdraw from the school system.
“To my knowledge, most of the withdrawals are from elementary schools. We still have the same number of senior students, almost 900, Muna said.
He added that PSS is now amending its school-year calendar as a result of the cancellation of classes.
“We also took into consideration the [Board of Education’s] concern regarding the graduating seniors, he said. The BOE wants these students to graduate on time.
If the board approves the proposed schedule, the graduation and promotion dates for Rota will be on June 7; Tinian, June 10; Marianas High School, June 11; Kagman High School, June 12; Da’ok Academy and Saipan Southern High School, June 13.
In a previous meeting, Board of Education Chairwoman MaryLou Ada said college-bound senior students must finish on time.
She asked PSS to prioritize these high school students “so they can graduate [in June] as planned in this school-year and not wait until September.
