NMC may get deadline extension for accreditation reports

THE Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Senior College and University Commission or WSCUC may extend the deadline for the submission of Northern Marianas College’s reports.

Accreditation liaison officer Charlotte Cepeda said “WSCUC vice president Maureen Maloney, in consideration of the effects of Typhoon Yutu, is proposing an extension for all report deadlines for NMC. She will bring these proposals to the commission at its next meeting scheduled for this month.”

Cepeda said Maloney was supposed to visit NMC on Oct. 30 and 31. “She may now visit in May or June 2019.”

She added that the commission will be asked to extend the deadline for the progress report, which is due on Nov. 1, 2018, to March 1, 2019.

The off-site report is due on Aug. 17, 2019 but the deadline may be extended to Feb. 3, 2020, she said.

“As for the on-site visit originally scheduled for March 10 to 12, 2020, Ms. Maloney is trying to reschedule that for September or October 2020,” Cepeda added.

According to NMC interim President Frankie Eliptico, the commission was informed about the situation in the CNMI. “So they want to give us ample time to be able to prepare these scheduled reports and to prepare for the scheduled visits.”

Aside from the deadline extension, Eliptico said the commission is waiving the 2018 annual dues of $17,000. “They did that for us during Soudelor as well.”

The WASC Senior College and University Commission is “a regional accrediting agency serving a diverse membership of public and private higher education institutions throughout California, Hawaii, and the Pacific as well as a limited number of institutions outside the U.S.”
