ONCE the damaged lamp posts on Beach Road are repaired, the Saipan mayor’s office will again put up hanging planters, Mayor David M. Apatang said.
He said they removed all the hanging planters from the lamp posts on Beach Road before Typhoon Yutu hit Saipan in October.
“So the hanging planters are all in good shape and they are going to be installed again,” he added.
The Marianas Visitors Authority provided the mayor’s office $20,000 for the project.
MVA board chair Marian Aldan-Pierce lauded the mayor’s office for its continued collaboration with MVA in the implementation of the islandwide beautification program which includes the flower island project.
Aldan-Pierce said the latte stone-shaped flower sculpture at the airport is already completed.
“We are starting to plan for a larger project at Banzai Cliff,” she added.
Apatang said one of his priority programs this year is to assist MVA in maintaining tourist destinations.
He said his office will also continue the road repair and maintenance program on the northern side of the island which is frequented by tourists.
