Muna, 41, was appointed interim commissioner after the board fired then-Commission Cynthia Deleon Guerrero on Oct. 31, 2017.

On Thursday, the board voted to offer the position to Muna.

In a text message to Variety, he said he is “waiting for the official document before I make a decision.”

He said the legal counsel is still working on the contract, the contents of which were verbally discussed with him.

If he accepts the position, Muna said he is “looking forward to working with an amazing team of professionals, students, teachers and staff.”

BOE member Herman T. Guerrero said Muna’s appointment as interim commissioner was good for only one year. “I think it expired on Nov. 8 so the board needed to take action.”

Guerrero expressed confidence in Muna’s leadership.

“He has done an excellent job in the past year, leading the [Public School System]. He is doing an excellent job with this current crisis. We need continuity in terms of having those temporary buildings put up,” Guerrero said, referring to the typhoon recovery efforts.

Glenn Muna, M.Ed, a former principal of Oleai Elementary School, was appointed associate education commissioner for administration in 2012.
