Election official meets with OPA

JULITA Villagomez, the executive director of the Commonwealth Elections Commission, met with a representative of the Office of the Public Auditor on Monday to discuss the recent elections.

Asked for comment regarding the NMI Democratic Party’s  allegations of election “irregularities,” CEC administrative officer Kayla Igitol said Villagomez was still meeting up with an OPA representative.

She added that their office neither have power nor telephone lines even though they operate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

The NMI Democratic Party, through attorney Steven Woodruff, asked the CEC to explain alleged “irregularities” observed during the recently concluded general elections.

Among other things, the party stated that some ballots were left unattended and removed from public view at the counting center; were placed behind a curtain or in a back room; and opened with an unknown number of commissioners and observers present.
