CPA board approves higher OT rate for employees

THE Commonwealth Ports Authority board on Tuesday unanimously adopted the governor’s directive requiring government offices and autonomous agencies to pay their employees a higher overtime rate for work done related to the recovery efforts.

The directive allows government employees to receive an overtime rate of 2.5 instead of the regular 1.5. Because CPA is an autonomous agency, its board has to approve the directive prior to implementation. Barrie Toves

Gov. Ralph Torres’ directive is a way of appreciating the government employees’ efforts to help the CNMI recover quickly from the devastation caused by Typhoon Mangkhut on  Rota, and Typhoon Yutu on Tinian and Saipan.

“Some of these employees were also affected by the typhoon and yet they are still working hard to assist in the recovery efforts of the government,” the administration said.

The CPA board members who adopted the directive on Tuesday were acting chair Thomas Villagomez, Barrie Toves, Kimberlyn King-Hinds, Thomas Tudela Sr., Joseph Diaz and Pete Reyes.  Board chair Jose Lifoifoi was still off-island for medical reasons.
