BOE offers commissioner’s position to Glenn Muna

THE Board of Education on Thursday officially offered Glenn Muna the position of commissioner of education which has been vacant for over a year now.

Muna was appointed as interim commissioner after the board fired then-Commission Cynthia Deleon Guerrero on Oct. 31, 2017.

On Thursday, “the board voted to offer the position to Glenn Muna. The question is whether he would accept it or not,” BOE member Herman T. Guerrero said in a phone interview.

Guerrero said Muna’s appointment as interim commissioner was good for only one year. “I think it expired on Nov. 8 so the board needed to take action.”

Guerrero expressed confidence in Muna’s leadership.

“He has done an excellent job in the past year, leading the [Public School System]. He is doing an excellent job with this current crisis. We need continuity in terms of having those temporary buildings put up,” Guerrero said, referring to the typhoon recovery efforts.

“Should he accept the job, he needs to put it in writing.”

Glenn Muna, M.Ed, a former principal of Oleai Elementary School, was appointed associate education commissioner for administration in 2012.
