A man was charged this week with attempted theft after he tried to cash a check for $954 at Pay-Less Supermarkets in the Micronesia Mall, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam.
Andrew Richard Mendiola Cruz, 48, told police that he got the check from another person, who wasn’t named in court documents, and Cruz would get $100 if he cashed the check for that person, documents state.
Cruz also said he did this before and he did it because he needed the money, according to the charging documents.
Check had obvious discrepancies
Police on Monday met with a Pay-Less employee who said Cruz tried to cash a check that had obvious discrepancies, the court complaint states.
The employee said the check wasn’t printed on normal check paper and the borders were smudged, documents state.
